Princess Dress Up and Imagination
Halloween is rapidly approaching and my daughter has already picked out her costume. She is going to be a princess. This came as no surprise to us as she loves the Disney princesses tremendously and we often play dress-up. She pretends to be a princess and makes me the queen. We've nicknamed her princess since her birth. Of course, when we went out shopping for her costume, we ended up in the Disney store. She found a princess dress that she just had to have, and I had to admit that it was the most adorable thing I'd ever seen. We tried it on and sure enough - her new princess dress transformed her into the most precious princess I could have imagined. She insisted upon wearing it home that day. I reluctantly agreed, allowing her to wear it out of the store and through the mall. We got quite a few looks from passer-bys. Unfortunately, since the princess dress came into her life, she has wanted to wear it constantly. The night that we brought it home, she wanted desperately to sleep in it. I didn't allow her to do that, much to her dismay, but she put it on the next morning. She also wanted to wear it to preschool, but I really wasn't comfortable with that either. I just didn't want it to be damaged before she actually got to wear it for the real holiday. Digging through her box of play clothes and toys, we found a crown and magic wand that she thought would go perfectly with her princess dress. Seeing her all dressed up and pretending to be an actual princess just melted my heart into a million pieces. I'm so happy that I had a little girl. Having a little boy in a princess dress just wouldn't be the same! Seriously though, I wouldn't trade her for the world. I wasn't keen on buying her the princess dress from the Disney store. It was a tad bit more money than I'd planned on spending, but to be quite honest, her obsession with it has already made it more than worthwhile. Their entire line of Halloween costumes was absolutely adorable and worth the money. Of course, she'll outgrow this princess dress within 6 months and it'll be put into storage. It may even be damaged or in need of some serious assistance by the time she's done with it. Of course, every time she puts on that princess dress and plays, she's using her imagination and strengthening her intelligence. I am definitely not going to let that stop. So parents, spend a few extra dollars if your child wants the princess dress or superman costume that just seems a tiny bit too much money. The memories are priceless.
