Recent Guatemala has gone to great lengths to become a lot friendlier place for tourists including training and hiring tourist police officers and improving security at historical sites and by any spanish school. Several of the old buildings have been restored and have been made into Spanish lanaguage centers. This work has paid off as a long-standing US issued travel advisory was recently lifted.
