The Kenmore Sewing Machine Line

In the old days of machine sewing, just having a dependable machine to sew forwards and backwards in a straight line was more than enough. The alternative was often hand sewing. Today, however there are many alternatives.

Clothing, home decorating and other sewn products are available and many varieties and styles. Sewing machines are computerized with more than a 100 stitch choices and the ability to embroider programmed patterns. There are even sergers for home use to make the types of seams that used to be available only from commercial machines. Today¡¯s serious home-sewer may have more than one machine to handle a variety of projects. At the very least, the serious hobbyist has replaced more simple machines as top-of-the line standards improve.

How then does home-sewer choose the first serious sewing machine? One way is select it from a line of products so that adding a second machine or upgrading means a better learning curve and easy familiarity. The Kenmore sewing machine line is an example.

The Workhorse

The basic Kenmore sewing machine of some years ago is known as the workhorse of sewing machines. It was popular because of its sturdy dependability and low cost. You¡¯ll find them in many homes, sometimes replaced by a modern model, but lovingly preserved. Sometimes the old Kenmore sewing machine is passed along as the first sewing machine for the next generation of hobbyists.

Today, the basic Kenmore sewing machine is part of a varied line of machines. It starts with lightweight portable machines bearing the trademark of a child favorite character intended for new hobbyists aged eight and over. Such a Kenmore sewing machine can help a youngster learn to use basic stitches on a machine made for smaller hands. Prices don¡¯t rise by much as the stitch functions increase and the Kenmore sewing machine begins to add the ability to quilt as well as sew.

The Kenmore sewing machine line includes more elaborate machines that embroider, are capable of around 700 stitches and can produce monograms in a choice of fonts and sizes. Quilting, serging, heavy-duty sewing are all possible within the Kenmore sewing machine family. At the top of the line are electronic machines capable of nearly a thousand stitches and an LED touch screen. While such elaborate choices are not right for everyone, it is possible for nearly everyone to find the right combination of features and ease-of-use. The advantages of shopping from an extensive line of machines like the Kenmore sewing machine line are many.
